(DF) has been integrated via RS232 serial interface protocol with mission management systems developed by Churchill Navigation™, AeroComputers™, CarteNav™, and others.
An airborne direction finder is more valuable when integrated into mission systems because displaying the DF data - line of bearing (LOB), received signal strength, COSPAS-SARSAT™ beacon ID and lat-long coordinates, LoJack™ VLU, etc. - alongside other mission data improves overall situational awareness. It keeps crews from having to synthesize data from multiple sensors, facilitating a common operating picture.
Now
, which allows the DF to be connected with up to two mission computers in the aircraft, each receiving and transmitting data simultaneously. DF data available to the mission computers includes DF Status, Active operating frequency, Active operating band, Bearing values, Signal level, Squelch level, COSPAS-SARSAT™ data, and LoJack™ data. The 32-bit data transmission speed can be configured for 12.5 kbps or 100 kbps using the "Service" port.
