Working in conjunction with CNC Technologies, Metro Aviation customized a new H125 to meet the Texas Department of Public Safety’s specific mission needs.

Metro Aviation recently completed and delivered a new H125 for the Texas Department of Public Safety. Working in conjunction with aviation technology and wireless communications leader CNC Technologies, Metro customized the aircraft to meet the Texas DPS’s specific mission needs. The result is the most advanced law enforcement aerial mission platform completed to date by Metro’s Louisiana-based completion center.

The aircraft is the first in the Texas DPS fleet to be outfitted with the TrakkaBeam TLX searchlight, and the Boost Human External Cargo (HEC) system. The HEC System features a quick-release hook assembly that can remain on the helicopter during non-HEC operations, maintenance requirements are reduced and helicopter availability is optimized. Metro’s team also installed the latest Wescam MX10, Shotover ARS real-time augmented reality mapping system, and Rhotheta’s field-proven RT-600-L direction finder system.

“Texas DPS is proud to take delivery of our newest H125 from Metro Aviation, adding another great airborne law enforcement asset to our fleet.  This specific helicopter was spec’d with the latest avionics, mapping, thermal imaging, video downlink, and communication technology on the market,” said Major Marcus Tomerlin from the department’s Aircraft Operations Division. “It will be deployed to one of our border regions in south Texas.  This specific helicopter will assist Texas with its mission in securing our southern border and providing an additional level of public safety to our citizens and law enforcement partners.”

Metro Aviation is proud to have a strong partnership with Texas DPS, completing several aircraft for the agency and providing a cutting-edge advantage for completing their public safety missions.

About the Rhotheta RT-600-L

The RT-600-L is an essential mission tool that enhances the operational capabilities of TX DPS – as it does for other law enforcement agencies – allowing them to efficiently track, locate and rescue personnel – or recover assets – in the harshest conditions.

The RT-600-L is an advanced Doppler wideband DF designed for airborne platforms and capable of indicating the direction (or bearing) to an emitter or beacon transmitting on VHF-UHF frequencies. Its operational bands include Air AM band, Marine FM band, LoJack™, ETS™, and Cospas-Sarsat™ 406 MHz frequencies (channels). The RT-600-L conveniently displays signal & squelch levels, operating band & frequency, live and averaged bearing (LOB) values, beacon ID & lat-long location.

The RT-600-L is compact, lightweight, and rugged, and features a short bearing-calculation time due to a high electronic rotation frequency . The RT-600 series is relied upon by the US Air Force AUX-Civil Air Patrol for 20+ years and by law enforcement agencies for over a decade.

About the Rhotheta smartDF

smartDF is an iPadOS application designed for remote monitoring the Rhotheta RT-600 airborne DF over a Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) link. The App is compatible with both RT-600-A and RT-600-L models. smartDF relies on the iPad’s built-in GPS/GNSS, compass, and accelerometer sensors. All information obtained from the DF is conveniently displayed over maps with state-of-the-art graphics and an intuitive user interface.
